As much as I'd love to start off by saying what a great match-up this game will be Sunday, we all know that's not the case.
But as a Falcons fan I'd be remissed if we didn't discuss the cancer that was removed from core. I'm referring to former first round pick DeAngelo Hall.
The Redskins are imploding about as bad as any team in the NFL. It's a trend I've noticed since the one time salvation of the secondary parted ways in dramatic fashion two seasons ago.
He jumped ship on the sinking Petrino ship and joined the damaged Raiders team. There, he couldn't make peace with his standing in life and forced them to allow him to go destroy another franchise.
Mission accomplished. The Washington Redskins are the laughing stock of the NFL. Something Hall must be used to for the last three seasons.
There is a song by the band Breaking Benjamin that reminds me of Hall. It's as if it was written specifically about him. It's called "Had Enough" and worth a listen for all Falcons faithful.
In the chorus it states, "You had to have it all. Well have you had enough? You greedy little bastard you will get what you deserve. When all is said and done, I will be the one. To leave you in your misery and hate what you've become."
Well MeAngelo... Have you had enough?
After leaving for Oakland last season, Hall got a chance to put on show against his old team. Within minutes rookie Matt Ryan and receiver Michael Jenkins had made GM Thomas Dimitroff look like a genius. Trading Hall to the Raiders was one of the most unheralded moves in Falcons history.
Sunday if the return of MeAngelo, part two. If history repeats itself we may actually see receiver Michael Jenkins shake off his slump. Last season Jenkins caught two touchdowns against the former Falcons corner.
The Falcons are coming off a hard fought loss to New Orleans and have dropped two of their last three games. They finally return home to comforts of the Georgia Dome to face a team that has more drama than an episode of "The Hills."
Washington has only won two games this season and their offense is the main reason. Led by Eric LaSalle, I mean Jason Campbell, the Skins have provided little to help for a pretty respectable defense.
After the blockbuster signing this off-season of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, the defense stands pretty tall in the NFL. They are ranked #2 in the NFL against the pass. The Falcons are still trying to find their passing game.
Normally when I preview a game, I like to break down match-ups and who to watch but this isn't one of those games. I fully expect the Falcons to protect the dome on Sunday. The big questions are:
Can the Michael Turner continue to run the ball effectively? Can the Falcons cornerbacks step up and play well against mediocre talent? Will Matt Ryan continue his decline and turn the ball over?
These questions should be answered pretty early on Sunday.
